The Sydney Royal Easter Show

Most Australians don't celebrate Halloween but they sure do make up for it at Easter. The shops do it up, the kids talk about it at school, they make hats and Easter cards, schools close for two weeks and they have the Sydney Royal Easter Show. Everyone asked if we were going to The Show - a combination of farm animals, fruit and veggie displays, carnival rides, rodeo, fireworks and live entertainment. It sounded a bit too familiar and as expected it was much like the CNE with a little Calgary Stampede thrown in. Heidi and Dave weren't too impressed but the kids enjoyed it - especially the "Show Bags" – a tradition we’re not familiar with!

Adam and his classmates created their own Easter hats before parading around the school yard in front of the older students and parents. Charlee was too old to participate but did help out with the Easter Egg raffle!

Quit your Beachin'!

We went to the Royal National Park again hoping for some swimming and boogie boarding only to find out the waves were too big and the beach was closed. At first I was talking macho saying "they can't keep me out of the water". Then I saw the waves - holy #$%& batman! These waves would have crushed me like a pretzel. The waves would break about 50 m out and the white water created what looked like a giant whirlpool. Even too wicked for the surfers! The photos don't really do it justice.

We headed for calmer waters on Port Hacking where we climbed and ran from rock to rock whenever there was a break between waves.

"Adam, stand over there so I can take your picture. A little to the left, a little to the right. Hold on while I focus. Just another couple of seconds... "

SUCKER!!!
