Part 3 - Green Island
We decided to try Green Island as our first reef destination for a few reasons. 1. It’s closer to mainland than most reef destinations (members of the DiNucci and Grace families have been known to get seasick), 2. there is a variety of activities (in case the kids get tired of snorkeling), 3. you could depart from Palm Cove and 4. lunch was included. As it turns out Green Island is so-so. Although the brochures tell you that you can snorkel, walk the island boardwalk, swim in the resort pool, eat lunch, play on the beach and visit Marineland on the island, you really only have about 3 hours of time on the Island. Lunch in only on for one hour upon arrival (most people were too sick from the 3m waves to eat). Now we were down to 2 hours to get our gear on and snorkel. Once in the water you had to swim about 5-10 minutes to get to the reef. Once there, it was pretty amazing - lots of coral and multicolored fish. Although we did enjoy the snorkeling we knew there must be better reefs to explore on another day!
Adam, Jameson, Charlee and Maia were anxiously anticipating the boat trip to the reef. It didn't take long for the waves to take their toll!
Lots to see on the reef!
Charlee loved the snorkeling and the sunbathing! Adam bought a fish ID card so he could name the fish he saw. Looks like a professional diver in his gear!
Goodbye Green Island! Hello Cairns!
The long day took its toll on Adam.
