What a year!

After some big Aussie kangaroo hugs, Chris left for the airport on Monday to officially end our exchange. Hard to believe it's over. We traveled across as much of Australia as possible and enjoyed every inch of it. The trips were a time for us to bond as a family while absorbing and learning about a beautiful country. More importantly, we made some wonderful friends in Australia and will miss them dearly.

A special goodbye to the Betchers! It's strange how we got to know them so well without really being in their presence. We communicated frequently and openly all year long via computer. We saw them on their blog hanging out with our friends and they saw us on our blog hanging out with their friends. Their friends told us stories about them as I'm sure our friends told stories about us. After a year, we feel like we know them as life-long friends. We couldn't have asked for more compatible exchange partners. Thanks Chris, Donna, Alex and Kate - we've had an incredible year!

Home Sweet Home

We arrived home early Saturday morning (Charlee's Birthday!) and the first thing the kids wanted to do was play in the snow.

Later in the afternoon, Charlee and Dave decided to play some shinny on the pond.

Later that night I joined Chris at the Niblick with some Holy Trinity staff that wanted to say goodbye.

Goodbyes are always hard

After two days of packing and cleaning it was time to go home. We said our last goodbyes to some special friends and headed for the airport. The plane took off and travelled along the coast of New South Wales for about 10 minutes giving us time to reflect on the beautiful coast we spent so much time enjoying this year.

A Goodbye Barbie!

We wanted to say thank you to Donna Betcher for the wonderful year in her home by inviting her to dinner. One thing led to another and next thing you know we had 17 people over for a barbie! The Salemes and the Weeks joined Donna, Alex and Donna's mom Nancy for a relaxing evening.

Anne Weeks made a Lamington cake for Donna's birthday and a Canadian cake for Charlee's birthday! (Oh ya and a sticky date cake for me! Yum!)

Alex Betcher had no problem making himself at home - wait a second, he is at home! Joined by Kevin Weeks and Adam.

Bernadette Saleme, Nancy Uren, Heidi, Donna Betcher and Anne Weeks gabbed all night long.

We've made some wonderful friends in Australia and the Weeks and Salemes are no exceptions. From talking to other exchange teachers, I think we were lucky to get to know the Betchers as well as we did. Communication was the key and the exchange was a perfect match!

Sydney One Last Time!

We love walking Sydney. As usual, we took the train to Hyde Park where we walked through the war memorial at one end to the Water Fountain at the other end.

The DiNuccis were in town so we decided to catch the ferry to Manly Beach which gives amazing views of the Opera House, Harbour Bridge and all the inlets in the harbour itself.

We travelled to Jamberoo Waterpark 1.5 hours south of Sydney on Saturday for Harry's 8th birthday party. The Fuellings, Mackys and Graces had a fun and wet day.

Charlee celebrated her 10th birthday a bit early so she could party with her Aussie friends. We're actually scheduled to leave Oz on her birthday. She figures she can scam two parties this year as she's expecting one back in Canada too!

Nelson's Bay

We headed north to Nelson's Bay (Shoal Bay actually) to visit with the Weeks and their extended family and friends. There are now about 5 families that rent houses in the area each January. The spend all day at the beach and often get together for drinks or dinners in the evening. A fun bunch that we enjoyed meeting!

Barbie at the Miners

Chris and Melanie Miner from Ottawa had us over Sunday afternoon for a swim and a barbie. They live near Camden which is about 45 minutes west of Picnic Point. We met the Miners at the most likely place to meet fellow Canadians - the hockey rink! They live on a farm with sheep, deer and four dogs. The house is situated on a high ridge that gives clear views of the CBD and the harbour bridge over to North Sydney in the distance. Not a bad view for your morning coffee! The Miners have another 5 months to go as Chris' fireman's exchange doesn't end until July. Jack, Wade, Charlee and Adam had a ball swimming all afternoon.

New Years Eve - Sydney Style!

We enjoyed New Years Eve in North Sydney where we had booked a hotel room about 6 months ago. We checked out the parks near to the Harbour Bridge but soon realized we'd be squished and the kids had no where to run. We settled for a reserve not far from the hotel where several other families were setting up camp. The DiNucci's (Guelph) and the Miners (Ottawa) later joined us for the festivities.

This would be our vantage point of the Harbour Bridge and Opera House.

Melanie and Chris Miner (fireman's exchange) were the first to meet up with us.

Tobogganing - Aussie style!

The DiNuccis arrived and joined in the fun after a hectic flight from Melbourne. The drinking laws in Australia are much more liberal than Canada. Everyone brought coolers filled with beer, wine and drinks as well as munchies. No fear of being fined or having your alcohol dumped!

The kids kept busy playing while waiting for the first fireworks display at 9 pm.

The main fireworks were placed in three different locations in Sydney (all within our view) and were synchronized so they gave the exact same effect regardless of where you were.

We were having such a good time, we decided to hang out for the midnight show that was even more spectacular with fireworks going off waterfront buildings and the Harbour Bridge.

Part 7 - Christchurch

Unfortunately, we had less than a day to check out Christchurch. Our hotel was next door to the cathedral so at least we were in the middle of of all the tourist attractions.

A beautiful city!

New Zealand was more than we expected probably because we knew so little about it. I think it's often forgotten as Australia's little sister and often mistaken as the same thing as Australia. From our experience, it's completely different - the people, the roads, the mountains, the rain. We'd love to go back some other time and see even more.

Part 6 - Arthur's Pass

The drive from Fox Glacier through Arthur's Pass to Christchurch was incredible. The two lane highway weaved it's way through the valley below the mountains but would narrow to one lane at every bridge.

We estimated that we crossed 30 one lane bridges but none as curious as this one that was a one-lane shared vehicle AND train bridge!

The highway often gets rained or snowed out and they have to close the road. To combat landslides and water washouts near Otira, they built a roofed section to allow rubble to go over the road and a trough to allow a waterfall to skip over the road!

We stopped for lunch at the Castle Hill Basin where Adam discovered a cave that traveled about half a kilometer to the other opening. He was disappointed he couldn't go caving but the water would have been up to his chin! While we were there, a few people had just finished the wet trek.

Part 5 - Fox Glaciers

We were convinced to change our plans to include the west coast of New Zealand by a retired Air New Zealand pilot who caught Heidi's ear during Christmas Eve mass. We left fiordland and drove for 7 hours before arriving at Fox Glacier. The next day we joined our guide and headed towards the glacier. We had to hike, climb and jump about 1.5 km through mountain forests to get to the face of the glacier.

Adam is easy to spot in the photos - he's the only one in orange and right behind the guide, Andy. Charlee is usually not too far off.

Adam of course had to be the first of our group to step onto the Glacier. We kept telling him to give Andy some space or he'd get 'picked' in the head!

Time to head back to the bus.

Well worth the long drive and glad we took advice from a local!

Part 4 - Milford Sound

We stopped to enjoy the amazing wild flowers and then drove into this one-way dark damp tunnel on our way to Milford Sound. It's actually not a sound but a fiord - long narrow inlets created by melting glaciers. The steep mountains seem to dive straight into the water with no sign of a shore or beach.

Part 3 - Queenstown Day 4 - Christmas!

Kind of weird spending Christmas in a warmer climate. It was about 18 C on Christmas Day. The kids were excited to open their presents and curious how Santa could find them when they weren't at home.

After a nice breakfast, we headed for the mountains just above Queenstown which offered some super views yet again.

Part 3 - Queenston - Day 3

We hiked to the top of the gondola (kids couldn't understand why we wouldn't simply take the gondola to the top!) where they had a luge track (more like go carts). The kids loved it and it offered amazing views of Queenstown.

Later that night we went to Christmas Eve Mass in a cute little church with snow capped mountains in the background. This was the view of Queenstown just after mass.

Part 3 - Queenstown Day 2

Supposedly Bungy Jumping originated in New Zealand so what better place to take the plunge than the original jump at Kawarau Bridge - 43 meters down to the Kawarau River!

I give the thumbs up as if it's no big deal! Once my eyes left the camera and focused on the little dingy down below reality sunk in and my heart raced. After a brief pep talk from my Canadian jump instructor I took the plunge! Holy sh*t - the initial leap of faith took all the courage I could muster. I had intended to yell out Merry Christmas but all I could spit out was an ear piercing scream. Yes I'll admit I was screaming like a little girl in a cheap haunted house!

The kids gave me a big hug on completion. If you look closely, you'll see another jumper halfway through his jump! Needless to say, I had a hard time falling asleep that night!

This is as close as Charlee and Adam would get to bungy jumping!

Part 3 - Queenstown Day 1 continued

Queenstown regards itself as the adventure capital of the world and for good reason. You can do everything from Bungy Jumping and Jet Boating to Boogie Board Rafting and Paragliding. The area is also invaded by Aussies in the winter time to take in the incredible skiing in the area.

The kids chose Jetboating down the Shotover River as adventure activity #1. What a thrill! Several times we thought we were going to hit the walls of the canyon or bottom out on the rocks in the river. Just when we thought we could catch our breath the driver would spin into a 360. Unbelievable fun!

Part 3 - Queenstown Day 1

Wow - talk about a view! The flight from the North Island down to the South Island was spectacular. We never realized New Zealand had so many mountains.

We were pleasantly surprised with our accommodation we booked over the internet and decided to settle down and enjoy Christmas here.

Part 2 - Cambridge

On our return to Auckland we stopped in Cambridge to visit Mark, another of Heidi's ORC fitness friends. Mark, a Kiwi who has lived in Canada for the last 25 years, just happened to be visiting his father for Christmas so we popped in for a visit.

We got a chance to have lunch with a few of Mark's family.

Mark's dad enjoyed giving us a ride in his 1923 Austin. The kids loved it!

New Zealand - Part 1 - Rotorua

We headed off to New Zealand the morning after Heidi's party. After one quick night in Auckland, we headed off to Rotorua to check out the hot springs and Maori culture.

Charlee and Adam had their last day at Picnic Point PS on Friday. I'm glad Heidi wasn't their to witness it - the tears would have been flowing more than they already were! Both classes had afternoon farewell parties for the kids. Adam's classmates each stood up and said something nice about him while Charlee's class gave her a resounding "Aussie, Aussie , Aussie, Oi, Oi, Oi". Both kids received a white teddy bear signed by their entire class. At the end of the day, Adam gave Mrs. Bowen a big hug that prompted some tears to flow. Charlee's teacher, Mr. Hidson, who's been away the last two weeks tending to his very sick son, came in for a short visit just to say goodbye to Charlee and give her his NSW sports jersey. More tears were flowing as the class gave Charlee and Mr. Hidson a group hug.

School doesn't end at PPPS until next week but they decided to perform their traditional farewell to students so Adam and Charlee could be included (were cutting out early for NZ). All students who will not be returning next year get to walk under an archway of arms set up by the rest of the student body. The long line leads straight into the office where each student gets the honour of turning on the school bell! (Adam's favourite part!).

It was amazing to see how well Charlee and Adam took to Picnic Point PS this year. They made many friends and received a first class education in a caring and nurturing environment. It was really impressive to see the school take the time to say goodbye to their Canadian exchangees - something Charlee and Adam will remember forever!

MSJ Goodbyes!

Last Friday each house at MSJ got together for a Christmas lunch. After a delicious Thai lunch, the Tenison teachers gave me this Aussie hat made of kangaroo! They were all convinced I could pass as a true Aussie!

Monday MSJ staff attended a final mass in the school chapel before sitting down to "tea" put on by Sister Barbara (MSJ Principal). Sister Barbara also took on the roll of Santa as she gave departing teachers a gift. She gave me beautiful Waterford crystal of the Opera House!

The party continued the next day at the Revesby Workers Club where we ate and drank in celebration of the year end. More gifts - this time from the staff who gave me an authentic Wallabies jersey!

Presentation Day at Picnic Point PS

Tuesday was Presentation Day at Picnic Point PS where students from all years receive awards for things like Academic Achievement, Effort, Citizenship and Most Improved Student. During her school address at the start of the ceremony, Cheryl Harper the acting principal, thanked Charlee and Adam for their involvement at PPPS and wished them well on their return to Canada.

Adam received the award for Excellent Application and Attitude to Work!

Adam and his best mate Ethan (who received the Academic Award) have their photo taken with their teachers Mrs Psomadelis & Mrs Bowen. Mrs. P and Mrs. B split the teaching duties in Adam and Ethan's class. Adam adores them both and was teary eyed at bedtime tonight knowing that he won't see Mrs. P again (she was on Monday and Tuesday this week).

Charlee and Adam will have wonderful memories of Picnic Point PS. The school offers an excellent academic program and an amazing array of activities that both kids have taken part in. Charlee and Adam have made heaps of close friends and will be sorry to say goodbye on Friday.

Heidi would be happy to miss our visitor on the weekend. Crikey is the class pet in Adam's class. Each weekend a different student has to babysit Crikey and this weekend was Adam's turn. Imagine this thing climbing up your back in the middle of the night!

Peru Day

Peru Day is an annual fundraiser held at Mount Saint Joseph with all money going to the poor in Peru. The connection with Peru is a sad one. Sister Irene McCormack, a Josephite nun from Australia, was sent to Peru in 1989 to help with the poor. On Tuesday May 21, 1991 members of Sendero Luminoso (The Shining Path) entered the town of Huasahuasi and executed Irene along with four fathers from the village. Irene's only 'sins' were - dispensing 'American food' and spreading American ideas by providing Peruvian school books. The spirit of Sister Irene lives on here in Australia as well as in Peru as the girls at MSJ organized a variety of initiatives (food booths, spray-on tattoos, raffles, rock concert, show bags, haunted house, alter-ego parade and a fan favourite - poison your teacher) to raise money.

Now get this - with only students and teachers in attendance, MSJ was able to raise $15 000!!! Not bad for a day off school!

Robin was kind enough to arrange with her dad, Bill, a day sailing in Sydney Harbour. Heidi unfortunately had to go back to Canada earlier than expected and couldn't join us - we're supposed to pretend that it was just an average outing but I've never been good at lying. It was awesome! Bill and his friend Greg took control of the boat and had us cruising across the harbour at what felt like 45 degrees. I felt a bit useless but heaved on the ropes whenever I was told, not really knowing what I was accomplishing. We dropped anchor in Quarintine Bay, enjoyed lunch, took a quick swim and cruised back to the marina taking time to look at the mulit-million dollar homes on the waterfront. Hard to imagine a more beautiful way to see the Harbour Bridge and Opera House. Thanks Robin and Bill for a memorable afternoon. Sorry Heidi - it was spectacular!

Never a dull moment on the weekends. Anne and Phil Weeks invited us and the Saleme family over for dinner and a swim on Sunday afternoon. Anne has fed me and the kids on a couple of occasions when Heidi's been away and we always look forward to her cooking! Charlee and Adam asked straight away "what's Anne cookin'?" Needless to say it was another delicious dinner topped off with homemade ice cream!

Farewell Part¥ at the Macky's

Natalie and Andrew Macky were kind enough to throw us a farewell party on Saturday night in their newly renovated house. Natalie has been looking after Adam and Charlee before and after school this year. Chris Betcher refers to Natalie as his second wife and over the course of the year I've found out why - she's a wealth of knowledge about all things that dads tend to forget like important events at school, birthdays, school hats, etc.

Nat had the house beautifully decorated for Christmas season and served an awesome dinner followed by desserts to die for. We had a great night of conversation and laughs (without the worry of our children interupting the fun!).

We took the kids into the city last week to check out the window displays and visit Santa at David Jones department store.

Nippers Carnival

The four surf lifesaving clubs on Cronulla beach competed in a Nippers Carnival today.
Charlee competed in the ocean swim (a lot farther out than I normally let her go!), surf board ocean race (Charlee drifted away from the pack in the strong surf and had to be pulled into a lifesaver boat - she was too excited about that and didn't worry about not finishing the race!), and sprints and team relay on the beach.

Adam competed in sprints and flags. For "flags", competitors lay on their stomachs 20 m away, facing opposite the flags. The organizers place one or two fewer flags than competitors. When the whistle blows they jump up, sprint to the flags and dive headfirst attempting to capture a flag. Those who capture a flag move on to the next round. Adam did well enough to make it to the finals!

We didn't get home from the Violins until about 11 pm last night and we had to be at the beach at 7:30 this morning. The event lasted till late afternoon but Charlee and Adam hit the wall after about 5 hours of beach fun. Definitely a worthwhile adventure that Charlee and Adam are likely never to experience again!

Ruby Violin had her First Communion on Sunday so the Graces and DiNuccis were invited down for the weekend. We could only come for the Saturday gettogether but had a wonderful time playing on the beach, swimming, surfing, eating, drinking, playing monster, and talking equally about Canada and Australia.

We've spent more quality time with the Violins here in Australia than we did back in Oakville and it's sad to think we may not see the them for quite some time. They leave in a couple of weeks for Christmas in Canada and return in January just as we're about to head back. We've already told them we'll be back to their beach house in a years time! Thanks for another great time Liz and Vic - you have a wonderful family!

Back to Bowral

We went back to visit Rob, Robin and Shelley in Bowral on the weekend. We gathered at Shelley's place mostly so we could let the kids roam free on their beautiful property. The boys trapped some Yabbies (fresh water crayfish) while the girls made a teepee.

Shelley's hubby Dan was unfortunately flying again (Qantas pilot) so we'ver yet to meet him. I was surprised to find out that he's actually Canadian! Born in Edmonton. I like him before I've even met him. Left - Heidi and Shelley. Right - Rob and Robin.

Since Charlee was at a friends for a sleepover, Adam decided he was entitled to invite a friend over for a sleepover. Harry, his parents, Dave and Leanne and siblings, Rupert and Ebony, came over for dinner. Heidi made the adults an awesome Thai dinner. The boys watched 'boy' movies while Ebony watched 'girl' movies in Charlee's room.

The Hunter Valley was nice but not the most kid-friendly of places so we decided to leave early on Sunday morning and head back to Sydney for a swim at Bronte Beach and a walk to Tamarama Beach where the Sculpture by the Sea exhibits start. Heidi had seen the sculptures earlier in the week with her mom but enjoyed it just as much the second time.

The dunny was Dave's favourite - an outhouse complete with solar panel, antennae and satellite dish. The pod on the right was a crowd pleaser.

Charlee played some tennis while Adam was wishing the ice cream truck hadn't melted!

The Hunter Valley Wine Region

By the smiles on their faces, you'd think Heidi and Jen hadn't had a sip of wine in months. Our first stop was at Tyrrell's Vineyard where we had a tour of their wine making process while the kids played in the original shed from decades ago.

Next stop - Blue Tongue brewery to keep Dave happy. Phil and Adam agreed that five of the six on the paddle were awesome. The one left behind was made with ginger.

Next stop Lindemans Vineyard where Jen bought herself a wine bottled in 1967. She plans on opening it on her 40th in January!

A Night at the Bowls!

Charlee and Adam braved the weather at Cronulla Beach today without a complaint.

Charlee's group started off in the rock pool for board training. The tide was high and the waves were crashing over the sides and the girls loved it. Later Charlee's group were competing by racing into the water, performing a shallow dive, racing around human buoys before racing back onto the beach. Charlee would come in last or second last - not from lack of ability but rather from the joy of swimming. She would dive 2 or 3 times, let a few waves crash over her and then do a handstand before returning to shore! She absolutely loves the water. The only time she gave it her all was when the boys challenged the girls to a race. She ended up beating all but four of the boys. She'll show them!

Adam on the other hand can be quite competitive but in one particular event on the beach, he kept coming in second last and wasn't showing much enthusiasm. It took me awhile but I finally figured out his logic - as soon as you get eliminated you get to go and build sand castles! Win a race or build a sand castle - a real dilemma for 7 year old boys!

Powerhouse Museum

The weather on Saturday was bleak so we took Oma to the Powerhouse Museum near Darling Harbour.

But not before meat pies for lunch - truly Australian! Dave had a curry meat pie with mashed potatoes & mashed peas swimming in gravy. A whole meal in the palm of your hand!

Lots of interactive things to do.

The key exhibition at the museum is The Great Wall of China. Amazing photos and artifacts.

Halloween

Not only is Halloween not really celebrated in Australia but many adults scoff at the idea and dismiss it as an American tradition - and they usually say the word American with distain. That didn't mean the kids would miss out though. Since trick or treating is not popular here, the kids thought it would be a great idea to host a party for their friends. We setup all week - a haunted house in the shed, cobwebs around the house, scary music, witch's brew, and of course heaps of lollies. Thanks to Oma (who arrived Halloween morning) and Romanta (maths head at MSJ) for the finishing touches on the decorations.
Clare, Brittany, Sophie, Alyssa and Charlee were as loud as, well, 5 nine year old girls at a Halloween party!

Adam, Ethan, Harry and Alex did their best to annoy the girls eventually being banished to the tree fort.

Even the moms enjoyed themselves (and Heidi's wine). Carol, Marina and Mara raise a glass or two.

As I was writing this some MSJ students knocked on our door and surprised us with a heartwarming "Trick or Treat". Since they weren't allowed out on Tuesday night (they claim they were too busy doing maths homework!), they decided to do it tonight - four days late but rewarding nontheless!

Liverpool Saints Hockey Awards Night

Last Saturday was awards night for the Liverpool Saints "ice" hockey teams. Charlee and Adam practised with the PeeWee team as development players while I played on the senior B squad. For the kids Monday night practises, I would often coach the younger development kids at one end while Coach Mick would have the PeeWee team at the other end.
The awards night was quite impressive - full sitdown dinner, door prizes, raffles, trophies for every player, and major club awards. Not to shabby for a hockey club that's only two years old!

Adam spent most of the night running around with fellow Canadian Wade. He's here with his mom Melanie, dad Chris and brother Jack on a firefighters exchange from Ottawa!

I finally found something I don't like about Australia! It's fly season in Sydney and are they annoying. They seem to enjoy flying into any available facial opening just for the fun of it. No nasty bite like the black flies in cottage country. Just persistent annoyance.

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip up the NSW and QLD coast. It's especially fun when you get to spend time with friends and family along the way. This was our third and final "big" trip in Australia. Each trip offered something different and special and showed us how diverse Australia is. Our final "big" trip will be to New Zealand over Christmas time and we've already begun planning! Can't wait.

Part 13 - "When am I going to see Molly?"

Finally, we don't need to hear "When am I going to see Molly?" coming out of Charlee's mouth. Molly Paton and her family (dad Rod, mom Tracie, Annabelle, and Matilda) were on a teaching exchange to Canada three years ago and Molly was in Charlee's grade 1/2 class at Holy Family in Oakville! Matilda was a grade nine student at Holy Trinity and even babysat for us one night. We knew they lived north of Sydney near the coast but we were having trouble contacting them as we had little accurate information. I googled each of the family members names until "Annabelle Paton" popped up with the Woolgoolga Netball Association. I sent a message to Tracey Schmidt (who works with the Netball Association) and pleaded with her to help me contact the Patons. She was very obliging and eventually contact was made and plans were set to reunite Charlee and Molly! Needless to say they were very happy to see one another.

Adam felt a bit left out until the Paytons invited a few boys over! Boys will be boys and they were soon getting into trouble like they'd known each other for years.

The Patons live in a beautiful part of NSW with a small lake across the street that feeds into the ocean. Rod took Dave for a sea surf to a rock island a short distance out from the beach (and Dave's back never forgave him!)

The next day the Patons organized barbie at a nearby national park next to the Newfoundland State Forest where we saw Brumbies (wild horses) grazing near the road.

Later that night we enjoyed a get-together with some friends of the Patons that involved some tasty Thai food and several games of ping pong.

We were having such a good time we decided to stay an extra night. The Paytons were wonderful hosts and a super family. Rod is now teaching high school after several years at the elementary level. Tracie works at a pre-school in Woolgoolga. Matilda (hiding behind Annabelle) is currently writing her final high school exams and is planning to take next year off to work before heading to uni. Annabelle, the netballer, seems much more mature than most year 8 students I've taught. Molly is the cutest thing - just the way we remember her from a few years back.

This will be a memorable visit for Charlee and Molly. Hopefully, we'll keep in better touch with the Patons and possible convince them to return to Canada for a visit!

Part 12 - Wet 'n Wild 'n Broke

We were able to keep the kids away from the amusement parks on the way past Surfer's Paradise the first time but we gave in on the way back down. The area is home to Dream World, Movie World, Sea World and Wet 'n Wild - all fun but not really why we're in Australia. Rather expensive considering we could do Canada's Wonderland and its spash park for about the same price. Nonetheless we all had a great time splashing around!

Part 11 - Brisbane Day 2

Day 2 in Brisbane allowed us to check out the city in more detail. The city, although not too far from the coast, thrives around the Brisbane River as both sides are lined with parks, office buildings, universities and shops. It appears to be a very active city with running and biking paths going in all directions. We couldn't keep the kids out of the water on the manmade Southbank beach so we hung out here until meeting up with Cousin Nancy who has just recently settled into her new digs and nursing job in Brisbane.

Adam was fascinated with the old navy ship in drydock. All the action takes place near the river.

We drove Nancy out into her neck of the woods, enjoyed a delicious Thai meal, checked out her new aparment and met her roomie before saying goodbye. Nancy's going to love it in Brisbane. It's a wonderful city that's full of life without the touristy feeling you sometimes get in Sydney. Hope to see you soon Nancy!

Part 10 - Brisbane

We made a pit stop at the Ettamogah Pub on our way down to Brisbane. This pub was actually based and built upon a successful cartoon that used to appear within an Aussie magazine which had its heyday back in the 70's. Click on the images to read the words on the side of the pub....

Brisbane is a beautiful city with heaps (Aussie word) of interesting things to see and do.

On our first night in Brisbane we went to visit Jo and John, friends of Marika (Heidi's friend from ORC where she teaches aerobics back home). Charlee and Adam had a great time with Jas and Gabby.

The Neo-Classiscal City Hall (completed 1930) is home to the largest city council in Australia.

Part 9 - Fraser Day 2

Our second day on Fraser Island took us to Lake McKenzie - the biggest and most popular lake on the island. The road to McKenzie is quite bumpy but our CRV did well to get us there. Since it was overcast when we arrived, we decided to trek around the lake. At one point you can take a short cut but you have to tread through water (see below). On the bumpy return trip to the resort Adam lost consciousness - only a child can sleep like this!

We stopped in our hotel to refuel and found this friendly gecko hanging out in our room. One more hike, this time around Rainbow Gorge, and a drive along the beach before we called it a day.

Next morning we left early to catch the ferry at Hook Point at the south end of the island. We thought we were in the clear once we got on the ferry but probably the most treacherous driving was at the beach back on the main land. We had a huge sigh of relief once we hit asphalt. Fraser was a super experience - a very friendly place to visit. We only got bogged twice and within a couple of minutes people would come to the rescue without a second thought.

Part 8 - Fraser Island

The night after arriving the moon was full and the sky was clear so we took a stoll down to the beach to listen the the surf crash in. Beautiful night!

Early the next day drove out onto the beach for our first full day of adventures. The tire tracks were still visible from the previous day and you can see how much of the wide beach gets used.

We drove about 60 km up the beach to the Maheno shipwreck. You expect to hear about a tragedy until you find out the boat was retired from duty and was being towed by another boat when it broke free and washed up on the shore in 1935. Still fun to explore though.

We headed north from the Maheno and made it up to Indian Head where we ate lunch and climbed to the top for some nice views.

We drove back down the beach and stopped at Eli Creek so the kids could splash around and ride down probably the cleanest water we've seen in nature.

Later that day we walked to Wabby Lake where the lake is being slowly engulfed by a sand dune at a rate of 1 m per year. We ran into an island resident on the path to the lake. Heidi and Dave were scared and worried but the kids thought we were being silly. Dingos have been known to attack young children if they're not close to their parents. This guy had a tag on it's ear which indicates it's previously been a menace. We weren't taking any chances and scared it off the track. He just walked around us and kept on truckin' to the beach. Dave was lucky enough to see a couple of dingo pups the day before down by the beach so the rest of the family was quite excited to get their chance. Once we arrived at Lake Wabby we had a quick swim with the curious catfish before heading back to our resort.

Part 7 - Hervey Bay to Fraser Island

After a night's sleep and shark attack in Hervey Bay we took the ferry over to Fraser Island - the world's largest sand island! 4wd vehicles are the only ones that can handle the sandy roads!

We had time to kill before we checked into our hotel so we hiked 3 km to Basin Lake in the centre of Fraser Island. Adam found the trees irresistable and Basin Lake was so inviting! The kids suggested a skinny dip was in order and soon we were splashing around in our birthday suits! All fun and games until another hiking group arrived! Luckily, Dave and Heidi had just gotten redressed. Being the cruel parents we are, we left the kids hiding in the water while we had a nice conversation with the other party. Eventually, we rescued the kids and headed back to our vehicle

We met some critters on the way back before taking the bumpy, hilly, sandy road to the other side of the island to Eurong Resort and checking in.

For the second time on our holiday we saw a monitor lizard. They're rather fast and I wasn't fast enough to take a photo with my camera so I found this one on the net.

Part 6 - Noosa Heads

We stopped for a hike through Noosa National Park along the coast just north of Brisbane. We kept our eyes open knowing we might get a chance to see whales, dolphins and koalas and luckily we scored a hat trick! The whales were waving, the dolphins were playing and the koala was sleeping!

Part 5 - Crikey!!!

Even before we entered a friendly camel greeted the kids to the Australia Zoo. Their excitement was soon subdued though as we walked through the makeshift memorial for Australia's Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin. Few Australians were aware of Steve's popularity in North America and many Aussies thought he was a bit over the top and somewhat embarassing. Regardless, Australians, especially the kids, said an emotional goodbye to the "Wildlife Warrier" last month and the zoo was especially saddened.

Adam knew right away that this wasn't a croc but rather the American cousin, the alligator. Adam explained that an alligator's teeth show outsite the mouth when closed while the croc's teeth only show when it's mouth is open. Why do kids retain so much trivia? When two kookaburras talk it sounds like your in the middle of the jungle.

The Crocoseum is the focal point of the zoo. As a prelude to the show, they ran a 20 minute salute to Steve that left many in the stands with wet eyes - they even brought out a singer to sing a sad song just to make the tears flow even more! The croc/snake/bird show was not a disappointment.

We even found some time for surfing in Coulandra. Notice the gigantic waves behind Dave!

Part 4 - Glasshouse Mountains

We climbed Mt. Tibrogargan which gave an panoramic view of the rest of the mountains and valleys. According to Aboriginal legend, all of the Glasshouse mountains are related to each other. Adam found the story of how Mt. Coonowrin got its crooked neck most interesting.

And everyone thinks Dave pushes the kids a bit too much... Heidi was convinced the kids could make it to the top. Conservative Dave stepped in convinced her it was a tad too steep!

Part 3 - Surfers Paradise

It's all in the name! The town of Elston changed its name to Surfers Paradise in 1933 and it's been booming ever since. We met up with the DiNuccis for two nights of fun at Treasure Island Tourist Park. We all had a great time at the beach, playground and townhouse. The DiNuccis are a wonderful family to holiday with - very relaxed and laid back!

Part 2 - Coff's Harbour and Byron Bay

A short drive north took us to Coff's Harbour to see the "Big" Banana although we all agreed it was more like a medium banana. The area includes a banana plantation, toboggan run, ice rink and an indoor ski hill! (We also got to eat some "inexpensive" banana - only $6.99 a kilo rather than the usual $12 a kilo down in Sydney).

We ventured north the next day to Byron Bay and checked out the lighthouse located at Australia's most easterly point. We also had a chance to enjoy an afternoon with Karen Sharkey (MSJ maths department) and her family on the beach.

School Holiday - Part 1 - Taree

Our October holiday started with a last minute booking at a farm near Taree - our first stop on a two week journey up to Fraser Island. The farm was very picturesque. Within the first hour Charlee and Adam were invited to help round up the Alpacas that would be sleeping below our cottage for the night! They loved it.

The house above belongs to the hosts while the cottage below was our accommodation for the night.

Charlee and Adam started Nippers this morning at North Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club By the smiles on their faces, we think it's a hit. Lots of beach games and competitions. This is truly an Aussie experience!

This weekend is basically the summer kickoff for Oz beaches. The papers reported yesterday that the police would be making their presence known this summer to dissuade any would-be rioters from repeating last year's problems. If today was any indication, there won't be any opportunity to litter on the beach, let alone start a riot!

This weekend also marks the 4th anniversary of the Bali bombing in which 88 Australians were killed including 7 women from Cronulla. Many had left flowers, poems and photographs at a beachside memorial.

We're off on holiday yet again - this time to the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and Fraser Island (the world's largest sand island). Lots of stops along the way including Taree, Surfers Paradise, Byron Bay, Brisbane, Noosa Heads, Hervey Bay, Fraser Island and back again. All in all about 2500k round trip!

Bateman's Bay

Perry, Andria and Pammy arrived this week for quick tour of New South Wales. After checking out the city for a couple of days we decided to show them the quieter parts of NSW and took them to Bateman's Bay to visit the Dinuccis. Also on hand were Violins as well as Chris and Mark from Owen Sound (Mark is also on exchange).

The Dinucci's place is located 15 minutes outside of Bateman's Bay in the country. They live on a 5 acre property that really reminded us of the cottage. The beach was a short drive away and as expected all 10 kids loved it! We stayed at a holiday park on the beach not too far from Phil and Jenny's place.

Birdland Park in Bateman's Bay provided a fun day for the kids that included snakes, wombats, koalas, roos and more. Happy Birthday Izzy!

Swan Song!

Charlee arrived home after school on Tuesday and informed me that I had to call her teacher, Mr. Hidson! If Adam had delivered a similar message I wouldn't have been surprised but Charlee!!! My worries were quickly squashed when Charlee gave me Glen's cell number and said to call him in the evening! Glen has been trying to set us up with Swan's AFL tickets but we always seem to be too busy to use them. I assumed our luck had run out as the Swan's were now in the semi-finals and with a win would secure a spot in their second grand final in two years. (The finals are always in Melbourne as that's where the fan base is). They won last year and the the city went crazy.

I called and Glen told me two tickets landed on his lap and asked if I was busy on Friday night. After about a milli-second pause I said I'd love to go. To put things in perspective for you Canadians, imagine being invited to game 7 of the Stanley Cup semi-finals (and Toronto was playing - ok so you have to stretch your imagination). Only it gets better - it wasn't for cheap seats in the nosebleeds, it wasn't for good seats at the 50 yard line, it wasn't for a seat in a luxury box - it was for the Millennium Room at Telstra stadium that included a full sit-down dinner with 850 of the who's who of AFL and Sydney highlife.

Glen informed me if I wanted to go I'd have to borrow a suit so I quickly found one (thanks Tim!). The league commissioner was there, a couple of local mayors, radio and TV personalities, quite a few millionaire supporters and even an injured Swan player who spoke to the audience about the Swan's chances of repeating as champions! Hard to imagine a full banquet in the stadium an hour before a major sporting event begins!

Once the pre-game festivities were complete we walked across the hall to our seats to enjoy the opening half of the game. Glen's quite a sports fanatic and to my surprise knows a lot about football (gridiron) and hockey. He spent a couple of years in the US and Canada and I'm convinced he attended more sporting events during that time then I have my entire life! We enjoyed comparing favourite North American teams and players. Halftime took us back to the Millennium Room for more refreshments!

In the second half the Swans took control of Fremantle to win by a comfortable margin. Then the singing began! All 60 000 fans seemed to know the Swan's Song and sang it at the top of their lungs. (I think the Leafs need a song - although we wouldn't get to sing very often!)

Thanks for an awesome night Glen! One I'm not soon to forget.

We've been able to witness this beach culture many times but decided it was time to participate with more than just a swim at the beach so we signed Charlee and Adam up for the Nippers program at North Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club.
I borrowed the following description of Nippers from http://www.cultureandrecreation.gov.au/articles/surflifesaving/

"There are now over 40,000 junior surf life savers (Nippers) in Australia. Children can join the program from as young as seven years old. The aim of the junior program is to give children surf awareness and surf safety skills so that they can keep themselves safe at the beach.
They can also participate in board paddling, surfing, swimming, running, wading and other fun activities and games. These are the skills that allow children to compete in club, regional and state surf life saving carnivals."

Each Sunday morning from 9 to 11, Charlee and Adam, will join the fun at Cronulla Beach. They can't wait! Some photos of some of the activities!

The Betchers are major 4WD enthusiasts and often talk about their adventures with the Suzuki 4WD club. In two weeks, we're off to the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast for our next holiday. We're venturing as far north as Fraser Island - the world's largest sand island! We were a bit concerned whether our Honda CRV could handle the sand so, on Chris' suggestion, we tore up the sand dunes at Cronulla on Sunday afternoon. What a riot! Chris has provided us with some valuable information for our trip to the big sand box. We can't wait!!!

Coincidence? I think not! This has Tim Horton's written all over it!

Bowral to visit the Robs!

We were invited to Bowral on Saturday to visit with Rob and Robin, good friends of the Betchers. Bowral, a very small and picturesque town, is approximately 1 hour west of Picnic Point. Shelley, a long time friend and neighbour, was also on hand for a delicious lunch and fun conversation. Charlee and Adam had a super time with Emily, Brody, Giles, Jess, and Andrew!

After lunch we hopped in the cars and journeyed over to Shelley's for a walk in her beautiful neighbourhood - so nice that the Robs have their eye on an amazing piece of property just behind Shelley's place.

Some local animal friends include ponies and wombats (unfortunately they weren't out and about when we visited their home).

Bowral is much more relaxed compared to Sydney. Rob and Robin lived in Rosebay (which is on the water in Sydney) for many years until moving to Bowral a few months ago. It reminded us of the feeling we get when we leave the GTA and head for the cottage. After a look around, we can see why they moved inland!

We've been invited back for a 'sleepover' after the school holidays and look forward to a true Aussie bush party! Thanks for a wonderful day Rob, Robin and Shelley!

Cousin Nancy arrives!

We met Dave's cousin Nancy from Atlanta in Sydney on Thursday night for dinner and beers. Nancy lived in Australia in 2000/01 when the Olympics were on. She worked as a nurse at a Sydney hospital and enjoyed the experience so much she's back for another nursing stint - this time in Brsbane. We had a great night catching up on the Grace and Thompson clans and will get together again in a few weeks when we travel north on our next holiday. Can't wait!

Wet Watson's Bay!

Lighthouses are a necessity on the Sydney coast!

Camp Cove was the spot where the First Fleet landed in Sydney Harbour.

We also got a peak at "Lady Jane" beach - Sydney's nude beach! Believe it or not there was one exhibitionist on the beach in the pouring rain with temperatures hovering around 14°C! Anytime someone would walk by he would stand up and walk towards the audience! Charlee thought it was hilarious.

Wendy and Porch (Canadians, eh) arrived in Sydney last Wednesday from their criss-cross adventures around Oz. On a very wet Saturday, we took them to the Royal Botanical Gardens, the Opera House, the Harbour Bridge and the Rocks. The rain kept most of the tourists away which made it a crowd-free tour!

INXS

I went to see INXS play on Monday night with Natalie Macky in the Gong. Canadian JD Fortune is their new lead singer who was picked from the reality tv show Rock Star: INXS last year. JD's last known Canadian address was Oakville, Ontario! Not sure if living in your car counts as an address though.

INXS played a mix of old and new but finished with the best of their old which the middle-aged crowd appreciated!

Met up will Vic, Liz, Nick and Di for a beer before the concert.

Special thanks to Andrew Macky! I don't know many husbands who would lend out their wives for a concert AND take care of the other bloke's kids!

Footy for Father's Day!

Adam finished his AFL season a few weeks back and was anxious to see the big boys play the game. One of Adam's teammates, Nelson, barricks (can't use the word root in Oz!) for the Sydney Swans! Nelson's dad, Anthony, invited Charlee, Adam and me to the last regular season game on Sunday at the Sydney Cricket Grounds. It's a family affair for most Swans fans - Anthony regularly brings wife, 3 kids and parents to the games. Sunday also happened to be Father's Day in Australia so it was especially fun to be there with Charlee and Adam.

Aussie Rules Football is a combination of soccer, basketball and rugby. The object of the game is to kick the ball through the 2 tallest uprights for 6 points (that's when the goal judge draws out his fake guns a la John Wayne and pretends to shoot them!). Should you miss the tallest ones but at least get it through the two shorter but wider ones you get only 1 point. Needless to say the fans only appreciate the 6 point goals and moan about the 'behinds'. You can only pass the ball by hitting like an underhand volleyball serve or kicking it to a teammate. Should the teammate receive a pass that was kicked to him, he gets a free kick from where he 'marked' the ball. If this spot is close enough to the uprights, he tries for a goal. It's amazing to see how accurate these guys are with their feet - both passing and scoring - while being chased and tackled by the opposition!

The best part of the day for the kids is the end of the game when they all storm the field for a kick around!

In the end, the Swans totally dominated the last place Carlton Blues to secure 4th place overall. 21 goals and 6 behinds for the Swans and only 6 goals and 8 behinds for the Blues!

Back to the Beach!

The weatherman said it would be 26°C on Saturday so we couldn't resist the urge to head back to the beach. Cronulla Beach to be exact!

DUNES!

Incredible sand dunes that we've overlooked in our previous visits to Cronulla. The kids wanted to sprint to the top but found sand to be harder to climb than snow!

These two young sheilas were 'tobogganing' down the dunes on their boogie boards and were nice enough to let Charlee and Adam have a go. We'll definitely have to return with our own boards! Look closely and see Sydney centre in the background.

The parents of one of Adam's mates told us of The Snakeman who puts on a show at La Perouse on Botany Bay every Sunday so we decided to check it out.

The Cann family has been putting on reptile shows here for the last 80 years.

Kata Tjuta (The Olgas)

Kata Tjuta is a series of 36 domes bunched together about 30 k west of Uluru. They don't get the limelight of the big rock but are equally fascinating! We trekked the Valley of the Winds trail that meanders in and around the big domes. At about the 8k mark Adam and Charlee started protesting until Adam spotted a wild camel on the horizon. Camels were imported to help build a telegraph line from south to north Australia. Once completed the camels were simply released into the wild. Apparently, no one new they bred like rabbits! So today there are estimated to be over 700 000 camels in the Outback! (look closely at the bottom right photo)

Needless to say the kids slept well that night!

We enjoyed our 2 hour Aborginal walk with Keith who told us ancient stories of his people. Adam and Charlee had fun trying out some traditional wooden tools.

Uluru was much better than expected. Before visiting there, we couldn't understand the fuss over a big rock. Now we understand - it's huge, the sunset was amazing, the climb was something the kids will never forget, the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly, the Olgas were beautiful, the Anangu tour taught us some history,... I could go on. In the end, it was a wonderful experience.

Solid as a Rock! ULURU!!!

We were able to sneak away for a long weekend to Uluru (Ayer's Rock) in central Australia (Northern Territory) thanks to Sister Barbara's kindness. And what a weekend we had! Uluru is the second largest monolith (a single gigantic rock) in the world (Mt. Augustus in Western Aus is the largest).

Adam could hardly contain himself - he couldn't wait to climb Uluru and as expected he led the pack!

What a view! It took about an hour to get to the top - not for the weak-hearted.

The base of Uluru is equally amazing - caves, holes, eroded walls and ancient aboriginal art.

City to Surf 14k Run

Sunday was the annual City to Surf fun run in Sydney. Dave, Heidi, Liz Violin and Jennifer Dinucci decided they could handle the race but were unsure if Phil and Vic could handle keeping an eye on 9 kids while we were gone! The race starts in Hyde Park not too far from the Opera House and ends at Bondi Beach. The 14 k run includes a few hills, none more gruelling than 2 k Heartbreak Hill at the 8 k mark. Heidi quickly lost Dave at the 3 k mark in a sea of 63 000 runners. When we reunited at our meeting place after the race, we were shocked to find our we had the exact same time which meant we must have been within a few metres of each other the whole race but didn't know it!!!

Manly and the North Head

Bob and Pat Snelson, members at the Ontario Racquet Club where Heidi teaches aerobics, are in Australia to visit with their daughter who's going to teachers' college in Melbourne. They had a few days in Sydney so we hooked up with them on Sunday and toured the north head of the Gap and the Manly Beach area. It was very nice to hang out with Canadians for a day (American actually but living in Canada for over 30 years) and Heidi enjoyed getting the ORC update. Bob and Pat are off to Cairns and the Daintree Rainforest next so we were able to give them a bit of advice as we were just their last month!

Wallabies versus Springboks

Dave, Vic (Oakville) and Phil (Guelph) thought they'd go to the rugby match Saturday night to show these Aussies what we Canadians know about rugby - not much! Australia played South Africa in the rugby union Tri-Nations tournament (the third team being New Zealand). Between the three of us, we pieced together enough rules to figure out the main purpose of the game although we still have a lot of questions. Regardless of our lack of rugby knowledge, we had a great night. There were tons of activities outside Telstra Stadium – food stands galore, promotions with free Wallaby flags, choirs signing Australia’s national anthem “Advance Australia Fair” and Australia’s wannabe national anthem “Waltzing Matilda”, beer tents, etc. The whole event was extremely well organized - fans are even given free transportation via bus or train to the stadium to avoid traffic jams and drink-driving (no, that's not a typo!).

The Three Canadians were able to upgrade their seats at half time as we moved to the plush section with carpeted floor, cushion seats and cup holders at the 50m line (don't think they call is that!).

In the end, Australia won 20-18 so the celebration continued outside!

Watson's Bay and the Gap

We had such a great day yesterday we decided to check out another area of Sydney we hadn't yet discovered - Watson's Bay.

As you can see in the map it's the south head of the entrance to Sydney's harbour. "Watsons Bay is where Governor Phillip first landed in Australia. It's also recognised as Australia's oldest fishing village, having been established in 1788."

Our initial view from Watson's Bay solidified our belief that there is no city more naturally beautiful than Sydney in the world!

The Gap, which is the span of water that separates Sydney Harbour from the Tasman Sea, is the resting place of the Dunbar - a ship that sank here in 1857 - Australia's worst maritime disaster. The Doyle family has been selling fish on Watson's Bay since 1885. We ate amazing fish while relaxing in Roberston's Park and staring at Sydney centre in the distance.

The sight of the Spirit of Tasmania was enough to send shivers down Heidi's back. She doesn't have fond memories of that trip and it all started just past the Gap! Adam on the other hand had no problem hamming it up for the camera!

Bronte Beach to Bondi Beach Walk

The skys were beautiful blue today and we had an urge to see the ocean so we went for a long walk along the ocean from Bronte to Bondi.

We enjoyed the Walk along the top of the cliffs while watching the surf crash into the rocks.

Of course walking isn't good enough for the kids - I swear they're part monkey!

We all enjoy the rock formations in the sandstone.

Adam and Dave braved the water! The wimps in the background had wetsuits. We haven't been swimming at the Sydney beaches in quite some time because we thought it would be too cold - we were wrong! Adam and Dave played in the surf for 15-20 minutes.

The kids bug us everytime we go into the city to ride the Monorail so we finally gave in. It transports you around Darling Harbour and the shopping districts.

Adam and Dave have had enough of Paddy's Markets so they headed off to the Maritime Museum in Darling Harbour while the girls shopped until their hearts were content!

Featherdale Wildlife Park

Charlee and Adam love visiting Wildlife Parks. The main reason - they get to interact with the wildlife. Unlike the Toronto Zoo where you need binoculars to see the animals, Featherdale Wildlife Park allows you to get up close and personal with most residents (with the exception of some creatures like the crocodile or the Taipan – the world’s most venomous snake!)

Part 7 - Mission Beach and Atherton Tablelands

We headed south to Mission Beach and the Atherton Tablelands for a few days before returning to Cairns for our flight home.

The area is inhabited by the cassowary bird - a flightless creature with a huge growth on its head that doesn't look healthy. Apparently it helps the bird make its way through dense rainforest. We did come across a young one as we drove and Heidi was quick enough to get a photo. The second cassowary photo was taken at a wildlife reserve in Sydney - just wanted to show what an adult looks like!

The area grows sugar cane and bananas. We saw tons of sugar cane but unfortunately the banana trees and crop were decimated by Cyclone Larry that tore through the area in March. Its aftermath was still obviously on our trip - broken trees and houses with tarps keeping the rain out were everywhere. Now we understand why bananas are $15 per kilogram at grocery stores!

We made several stops in the Atherton Tablelands including a Platypus Lookout (didn't see any), a waterfalls near Mission Beach, a curtain fig tree and Millaa Millaa falls!

We even crossed a washed out road to get to a local swimming hole named Alligator's Nest (weird name considering there are no alligators in Oz).

Our journey back to Cairns took us up and over Mt. Belleden - talk about wild S turns! We never imagined Australia being so mountainous.

Part 6 - Moore Reef

Are ya ready yet?

As mentioned earlier, we enjoyed our first dive on the reef but we figured other areas must be better otherwise they wouldn’t call it the GREAT Barrier Reef! We found the GREAT Barrier Reef on our second trip on the water. Moore Reef was exactly what we were expecting. The Sunlover reef trip proved to be well worth the money. We snorkeled several times, rode in a glass bottom boat, cruised in a semi-sub, observed fish in the underwater theatre, held sea slugs and starfish, and enjoyed a prawn lunch. The boat arrives at a pontoon permanently stationed on the reef where we are given our gear. Then it’s time to jump into the middle of the reef. Unbelievable colours of coral, an array of fish, giant clams that could swallow you, lazy sea cucumbers and a friendly sea turtle! It has to be the most relaxing/entertaining/visual stimulating/beautiful activity we’ve ever enjoyed! We wanna go back already! (Click on the photos to enlarge and get a closer look!)
